Community Connections
Thorntree plays an active apart in the local community:
Charlton Extended Schools Cluster Thorntree is one of a group of eleven local schools whose Headteachers meet regularly. We combine INSET days with our cluster schools, sharing skills, resources and expertise. Our staff regularly meet for moderation and discussion. Our pupils join up with pupils from other schools for many varied events.
Park Rangers Thorntree has an excellent working relationship with our local Park Rangers. Our Early Years classes pay regular visits to our three neighbouring parks and our Junior Sports Days are also held in one of our local parks.
Charlton Athletic Football Club Being its closest primary school, Thorntree has strong links with Charlton Athletic.
Local Churches. Thorntree Primary School has very strong links with local churches St Thomas' Church and St Lukes' Church. We make regular visits to these churches and do workshops about festivals, and our annual Junior Carol Concert is held at St Thomas'.
Trips to local locations All year groups at Thorntree have regular trips out into the local community, covering a huge variety of destinations: the National Maritime Museum, the Old Royal Naval College, the Ecology Park on Greenwich Peninsula, local places of worship of all denominations, local parks, Charlton Village, Charlton Library, Woolwich Town Hall, the Heritage Centre, the Thames Barrier, and many more.
School Travel Plan We regularly take part in National Walk to School Week events and are regularly joined by the Local Authority Road Safety Officers.
Our local MP is a regular visitor to the school.
Harvest Produce Deliveries All of the produce donated at our Harvest Festival is delivered by Year 6 children to local elderly residents.
Summer Fayre and Summer BBQ Our Summer Fayre and the Summer BBQ have grown over the years and are now very well attended events open to everyone in the community.
