Sport Premium and P.E.
What is the PE and School Sport Premium?
The Premium is designed to help children get an active start in life, supporting primary schools to improve the quality of their PE and sport provision so that pupils experience the benefits of regular exercise – from becoming healthier both mentally and physically to improved behaviour and better academic achievement. The funding is a ring-fenced grant for English primary schools to provide additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity. Allocations to schools are determined by a formula based on pupil numbers. The average one- form entry primary school will receive roughly £18,000 per year.
At Thorntree we use the Sports Premium in a variety of manners to improve our sports provision. Depending on current needs, this may include: specialist sports or dance teachers; swimming & cricket lessons; sports equipment; sports club subsidies; costs of joining in with local competitions and events; staff CPD training in this area. All after school clubs are offered to PP children at a reduced price.
Due to the coronavirus restrictions, we have an under-spend of £6149.79. There were plans for this money including:
-purchasing further equipment to align with our new Scheme of Work
-purchasing equipment and training for playtime ambassadors
-staff training
This money will be carried forward and the plans postponed until the new academic year.
