Thorntree News & Events 2019-2020
On Friday 13th September Thorntree pupils and staff brought in pre-loved clothes and shoes via the Recycle for Michael (Salvation Army) scheme. A total of 56 bags were donated.
On Friday 13th September the school Meet the Teacher sessions for parents and carers with children in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Both events were very well attended and much appreciated by all who came along.
On Tuesday 17th September Year 6 went on a trip to the Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park.
On Friday 20th September Thorntree pupils participated in international climate events through a Car-free Day in an adjoining road. Pound Park Road was partially closed for the afternoon and each class in turn had a session of fun and sports in the car-free area. You can find photographs under Recent Events in the Showcase tab.
On Friday 20th September Thorntree pupils took part again in the annual Jeans for Genes fundrasing day. They raised an amazing £137.33.
On Friday 20th September Year 4 went on a trip to the Woodlands Farm.
On Tuesday 1st October Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children attended separate assemblies run by the NSPCC. The theme of these assemblies was how to keep themselves safe and happy while at school and in their private lives too. The children were made aware of adults, within the school community and those outside of school, that they could talk to should they have any worries. They were also made aware of the help that can be provided by Childline.
On Thursday 3rd October Year 5 held their class assembly.
On Tuesday 8th October Year 5 started their Book Club.
On Thursday 10th October Year 4 held their class assembly.
On Monday 14th October, Year 6 began their Bikeability Week, learning how to safely use their bicycles on public roads.
On Thursday 17th October Year 3 held their class assembly.
On Friday 18th October we held our annual Harvest Festival assemblies. Food parcels were delivered to the local community afterwards.
On Wednesday 30th October our pupils enjoyed the Friends of Thorntree Association annual Halloween Discos. The Hall was spookily decorated, the lights were lowered, the disco ball twirled its colourful lights across the ceiling… and the children all looked eerily amazing. It was, once again, a fantastical experience.
On Tuesday 5th November, Year 5 went on a trip to The British Museum.
On Thursday 7th November, Year 2 went on a trip to visit the Museum of London.
From 11th to the 15 November, Year 6 went on their week-long residential trip to Condover Hall in Shropshire. It was an amazing week full of team-building activities and personal challenges.
On Friday 15th November it was BBC Children in Need day. Pudsey came to our assembly. We raised £164.72.
On Friday 6th December our Parent's and carer's association, FOTA, held their annual Christmas Fayre. It was yet another roaring success. Each class were awarded £10 to buy materials for their own stalls. They made their own products, priced them and sold them. The School Council ran their own stall too. There were also many other games stalls and, of course, Santa himself.
On Tuesday 10th December the Thorntree School Choir sang at the Cutty Sark.
On Wednesday 11th December our Nursery, Reception, Years 1 & s classes performed their Nativity play.
On Thursday 12th December our Junior classes put on a Christmas Carol Concert at St Thomas' church.
On Friday 13th December the whole school participated in a Wear A Christmas Jumper Day to raise funds for the Bexley Hospice. We raised £149.68.
As a result of learning about the extensive fires in Australia, the School Council organised and ran a Bring and Buy sale to raise funds for an animal charity in Australia on 28th January.
On Thursday 30th January, Year 1 went on a trip to the local Fire Station.
From 3rd to 5th February, Year 5 went on a three-day residential to Kingswood, near Ashford in Kent. Everyone enjoyed themselves. All the children learnt new skills and challenged themselves through new and exciting activities. The Zip Wire and the 3G Swing were among their favourites.
On Thursday 6th February, Year 2 went on a trip to the Tower of London.
On Wednesday 12th February, Year 3 went on a trip to the British Museum.
On Monday 23rd March the school was closed due to the Coronavirus outbreak to all children except the children of keyworker children.
On Monday 8th June we welcomed back our Year 6 children.
On Monday 15th June we welcomed back our Year 1 children.
On Monday 22nd June we welcomed back our Reception children.
