Thorntree Nursery
The Nursery has a total of 25 part-time places, in the mornings.
Nursery education is not statutory. Parents/carers who are interested in a Nursery place at Thorntree for their child can register their interest with the school when the child is 2 years 6 months old, although the length of time on a waiting list is not a criterion for admission to the Nursery. Pupils are admitted using the Greenwich criteria:
1. Children with special educational needs supported by a letter from a health visitor, doctor or social worker.
2. Children for whom it is the nearest nursery school or class.
3. Children who are brothers and sisters of, or who live at the same address as, pupils on the primary school roll at the time the child is due to start nursery education.
Children are admitted the term after their 3rd birthday and parents/carers will be contacted prior to admission.

Thorntree Main School
Your child’s entry into a primary school is decided by your local council. Parents/carers wishing to apply for a place should complete an online Common Application Form available on the Royal Borough of Greenwich website or you can request a form from the Admissions Section at the Woolwich Centre if you do not have access to the internet. Admissions during the school year
When there are more applicants than places, Greenwich Council applies the admission or ‘oversubscription’ criteria (after taking account of any children for whom the school is named on a statement of special educational needs).The criteria, in priority order are:
1. Children in care of the Authority
2. Siblings (brothers and sisters)
3. Pupils for whom it is the nearest community school
4. Other applicants, ranked according to home/school distance
Arrangements for the Admission of Disabled Pupils
Thorntree Primary School follows the policy laid down by the Local Education Authority (Greenwich).
We are always pleased to meet new parents in person and show them around. Please telephone the school to make arrangements, or write or call in – ask for Ms Kaplan our SENCO who will be happy to meet with you in the first instance so that we can do everything reasonably possible to meet your child's specific needs. You will always be welcomed! We can also advise you on the application process if needed.
However, please be aware that all admissions are coordinated through the Local Authority. As far as possible, Greenwich’s Admissions Team will try to meet parental preferences for schools but it is not always possible to do so. Places in schools are limited by the physical space in the school. Thorntree Primary School has an admission limit of 30 children per year group.
Arrangements For The Admission Of Pupils With Disabilities
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 defines a disabled person as one who has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a person’s ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.
Most children with Special Needs will not be disabled within the meaning of the Act. The admission of pupils with disabilities is considered in the first instance in the same way as non-disabled pupils. Further considerations are made in the light of need and accessibility. It is the Governors' policy to accommodate pupils with disabilities should parents wish and individual needs are planned for, to prevent any pupils being treated less favourably than other pupils. In practice, we ensure that classroom and extra-curricular activities encourage the participation of all pupils, including those categorised as having Special Educational Needs. Staff organise human and physical resources within the school to increase access to learning and participation by all pupils.
